Vincenzo NibalI triumphs in the arena of the vuelta a Espana

After 20 long years, the Vuelta is coming back to Italy, and is doing so with Vincenzo Nibali. The italian cyclist, known as the “Shark of the Strait” is, in fact, the new winner of the gruelling Spanish race, this year celebrating its 65th edition. A great success for Italian cycling, for the Liquigas-Doimo team and for Rudy Project which, after seeing Ivan Basso win the Giro d’Italia, is now celebrating the Sicilian rider’s magnificent feat.

Nibali fashioned his success thanks to his amazing regularity and his formidable resistance in the mountains, which allowed him to definitively seal his victory in the gruelling stage finish up to the top of Bola del Mundo, where he was just one second behind his very strong rival and stage-winner, Mosquera. “This has been a very difficult, highly contested Vuelta”, Nibali commented. “I managed to win it day by day, paying attention to everything: from the bonuses for group positions, to my diet and to the sprint finishes. The last few days were the hardest: it seemed that everyone was racing against me. In the end, ending up on the top of the podium is one of the greatest experiences of my life. I am filled with emotion and it will take a few days for the full significance of winning the red jersey to really sink in».
